Privacy Policy

Effective 20 July 2026 · Last updated 20 July 2026

The short version: if you subscribe, we keep your email address so we can send you the newsletter. We count page views without tracking who you are. We don't sell anything about you to anyone. You can leave whenever you like and we'll delete you.

This policy explains what The B-Side (readbside.com), published by Faster Sloths, Inc. ("we"), collects when you visit the site or subscribe, and what we do with it.

What we collect

Your email address — only if you give it to us. When you enter your email into a signup form, we store that address so we can send you the newsletter. We don't ask for your name, and we don't require an account to read anything on this site.

Anonymous usage statistics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count things like how many people read a given article and which site sent them here. It's a privacy-focused analytics product: it doesn't set advertising cookies and doesn't build a profile that follows you across other websites. We see totals and trends, not individuals.

Ordinary server logs. Like every website, our host records technical request data — including IP address, browser type, and time of request — as part of serving pages and protecting against abuse.

What we don't collect

Cookies

This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser may store small amounts of data locally to remember things like your quiz result, but that stays on your device and is never sent to us.

Who else handles your data

We keep the list of companies involved as short as we can. Right now it is:

These providers process data on our behalf, under their own privacy terms. We don't give them permission to use your information for their own marketing.

How long we keep things

We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, at which point it's removed from our mailing list. Anonymous analytics are aggregated and aren't tied to you.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. If you're in the UK, EU, or European Economic Area, the GDPR gives you those rights explicitly, along with the right to object to processing and to complain to your local data protection authority. If you're in California, the CCPA gives you the right to know what's collected and to request deletion, and the right not to be discriminated against for asking. We don't sell personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of on that front.

The fastest route for the newsletter is the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email — it works immediately. For anything else, email us at hello@readbside.com and we'll deal with it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how any of this works — adding advertising, for instance — we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be mentioned in the newsletter rather than slipped in quietly.
